Becky Guggisberg

I am a self confessed voyeur, loving the movement, bump and flow of people  coming and going in a coastal setting. The joy, the pace, the sunshine &  relaxed state – it is a paradise for the observer who relates to the figure in a  natural context.

I am not very interested in horizons or perspective, nor the capture of time – I  want the comings and goings to walk over each other, to be playful with colour  & to remember those that were here yesterday and tomorrow.

I want to catch the joy with hues that sing to you. I want to see the figure as  close to nude as possible as normal as possible being with one another in a  familiar environment.

I work in many layers and generally in oil paints – they are deliciously true to  their colours and abilities but I am delving into somewhat unfamiliar territory  by working with acrylic paints and watercolour appreciating that they have a  special something too.

I tend to work with a layered approach  working from a canvas that already  has a starting point. I have a suggestive way of depicting the figure and how it  becomes part of the coastal story. My paintings are lively, colourful and joyful.
